Appeal for Relief Donations for the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord.

On July 28, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the Kumamoto region of Kumamoto Prefecture. Seismic intensity 7 was recorded in Uki City and Hikawa Town, while Kumamoto City, Yatsushiro City, and other surrounding areas experienced intensity 6 Upper on the Japanese seismic scale.

In the hardest-hit areas, homes have collapsed, landslides have occurred, and there have been casualties. Some communities are also suffering from disruptions to essential lifelines such as electricity and water. With record-breaking summer heat continuing, there is growing concern for the health and well-being of those affected. Christian churches have also sustained damage, and reports are beginning to come in from the affected areas.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to everyone impacted by this disaster, and we pray that the Lord will grant them His comfort, strength, and peace.

The Relief and Devlopment Committee of the Japan Evangelical Association (JEA) has established a relief fund to support those affected by the Kumamoto earthquake. Guided by the principle of “churches helping churches,” we will use these offerings to provide emergency assistance as well as support for the long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts.
